ABOUT WINDING TRAILS

Thank you for your interest in Winding Trails Recreation Association.

Winding Trails, Inc. is an independent, non-profit, organization serving people from Farmington and surrounding communities, providing year round recreational and educational activities for the enjoyment and growth of families and individuals of all ages. Winding Trails is dedicated to the preservation and stewardship of the natural woodlands and waterways that allow outdoor programming, character development, and play activities that strengthen the lives of those we serve.

The current staff is comprised of 10 full-time employees and over 125 seasonal employees.

The facilities include 350 acres of woodland, 100-acre Dunning Lake, 8-acre Walton Pond, 12 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking and cross country skiing. The sportsplex includes a softball field, soccer field, three basketball courts, three sand volleyball courts, two boccie courts and a playscape. A large hill is provided for winter sledding. Located in other areas of the park are 4 tennis courts, two playscapes, three sand volleyball courts, two horseshoe pits, and another basketball court. Buildings include 8 pavilions, 2 bathhouses, a boathouse, caretaker house, lodge, office building, and numerous small seasonal buildings.

Winding Trails Recreation Association has five main areas of concentration:

I. Membership Program
The facility is open only to its membership for most of the activities. Families pay a yearly fee which entitles them to use of the facility and the ability to register for the programs offered. Membership is limited and currently we have a wait list of over 100 families. Members enjoy activities such as swimming, picnicking, cross country skiing, ice skating, fishing, and special activities and programs.

II. Summer Day Camp
The camp was established in 1947 and is currently the third largest camp in the state. Campers from the ages of 3 -13 can enjoy over twenty different summer activities from swimming and soccer, to archery and arts and crafts. The camp is open to the public, however; members get a discount on the fees.

III. Cross Country Skiing
We are an authorized Rossignol Demo Center with over 200 sets of skis, a retail store, ski instruction, and a snack bar, The 13 miles of trails are machine groomed on a daily basis for diagonal stride skiing and ski skating. The center is open to the public but members ski free.

IV. Group Outing Center
Each year over 300 outside groups rent the facility for company outings, family reunions, and weddings. We either rent the pavilions or the lodge for these activities. Most of these outings occur on the weekends so they will not conflict with our camp program.

V. Special Events/Programs
Through out the year Winding Trails will offer the membership and/or the public different opportunities. These include but are not limited to: Cross Country Skiing Citizen Race, NORBA Fat Tire Classic, Winter Weekend, Fishing Derby’s, Skating lessons, Preschool Programs, Swim Lessons, Sailing... learn more about these events and programs from our quarterly newsletter.

Every season offers dozens of activities and programs for you to enjoy; from gliding across scenic Walton Pond to skiing the miles of freshly groomed trails, or cooking up a barbecue to cooling off in the spring fed waters of Dunning Lake. Winding Trails is the ideal facility for your family! We always welcome the opportunity to give you a personal tour of the facility. Please feel free to call us at (860) 677-8458 and we will arrange a time for you to see how you and your family can benefit from your membership.
