Members will be given a two-week priority for program registration. However, some programs may be opened to non-members at a higher fee to support the class. Please contact the main office to see if a specific program will be available to non-members.

YOUTH PROGRAMS

Martial Arts for Children

Tae Kwon Do: Taekwondo, a Korean martial art of self-defense, is an Olympic sport and is the most practiced martial art in the western world by people of all ages. Taekwondo differs from other martial arts by its strong emphasis on kicking techniques. Through diligent practice a student will develop physical fitness, learn self-defense, increase self-confidence, and gain self control. The instructor is William Clato-Day, who is a World Taekwondo Federation, certified 4th degree black belt. For more information see www.clatodaystaekwondo.com. Kid’s Night Out!

This is the ultimate night out for any kid! Tons of games, pizza, an ice cream sundae bar, a big screen movie, and endless amounts of fun await you here at the trails. This program has evolved into a very popular kid’s event and space fills up quickly. So parents plan your night out and send the kids here for theirs. Head on over to the trails for a night out that you will never forget. Sorry, parents not allowed! Please bring clothing that is appropriate for outdoor and indoor play as well as provide a sleeping bag/blanket and pillow for the movie. Registration is required two days prior to start of the program.

Musical Beginnings – is something to sing about!

Begin now to open musical possibilities for your child! This program showcases your little one. It contains instruction in a fun casual atmosphere. There will be lots of repetition, a good beat, and singing and dancing to traditional children’s songs. Then- go ahead and boast! Instruments will be provided for all to show their musical artistry! Your kids have got talent! Don’t forget your camera. Photo ops every week! Registration is required two days prior to the start of each session.

More Musical Beginnings

Children’s songs with a different theme will be highlighted each week. Themes may include animals, Americana, colors and shapes, imaginary characters, seasons, friends, the earth and more. Familiar melodies will have new theme related lyrics. Each session includes hand and finger play, movement, singing, dancing, listening appreciation, toys, action figures and instruments. The best song is your song. Come and create it! Registration is required two days prior to the start of each session.

Skills such as balance and coordination will be presented with the emphasis on FUN! Registration is required two days prior to the start of each session.

Street Wolves Instructional Program

Young rollerbladers who would like an introduction to the sport of roller hockey can join us for four special evenings. Each evening will consist of 45 minutes of instruction covering the very basics of roller hockey followed by a short scrimmage. Skating, shooting, passing, and positioning will be introduced. Ages 6 to 12 are invited to attend. This program is a great introduction to the roller hockey league.

Street Wolves Roller Hockey League
Co-sponsored by the Hartford Wolf Pack

We are very pleased to announce once again our co-sponsorship with the AHL Hartford Wolf Pack. This will be the eleventh year of this fun filled recreation-based league. The emphasis of this program is definitely on fun. There will be no practices, just low-key games. We will evaluate the skill level of each participant and create teams. Each team will play a 6 game Schedule, plus 2 playoff games. Entrance fee will include a team T-shirt. Registration is required by Thursday, April 17th. Please note: We are looking for parents who may be able to assist in coaching teams. Please call our office if you can be of assistance.

After School Adventures

Your child will spend 2.5 hours a week participating in a variety of outdoor adventure activities from learning the basics of rock climbing on our 40' climbing tower, consisting of 4 sides; a 15' beginner wall, a 35' intermediate wall, a 35' advanced wall and the fourth side is a 60' x 35' cargo net. Participants may also have the opportunity to spend some time on our high ropes course. They will walk across cable bridges, climb up ropes, climb through tires, maneuver around logs, climb up, in and over a canoe, negotiate a giant’s ladder, swing from 50 feet, and jump into the abyss. Through this, your child has the opportunity to overcome personal fears and develop new self-confidence and trust. Registration is required two days prior to the start of each session.

Trails’ Leadership Cooperative
Backwoods Camping

Winding Trails has identified leadership development as a key component to best impact lives of high school age young people and their communities. Leadership development provides skills that improve communication, teamwork and productivity. Winding Trails will teach leadership through backwoods camping and outdoor adventure in order to build on self sufficiency, communication and confidence. Some of the activities included: Group games and initiatives, campsite preparation and set-up, challenge course, meal preparation, fire building, leadership skill development, leave no trace, and a host of good times. Registration is required one week prior to the start of the leadership campout.

Winding Trails Survivor (Raft Building)

Ever wondered what it would be like to experience some of the events performed by the contestants on the hit television show Survivor? Well now you can! Bring your friends and join in the fun as you try to build a “seaworthy” raft to paddle out to the island for challenges and tribal council!

Archery Lessons

Bull’s-eye! But can you do that twice? You can after learning the techniques and skills of a great marksman. Come try this challenging and exciting sport. Candidates must be at least seven years of age. All classes will meet at the Archery Range near Walton Pond. Registration is required two days prior to the start of each session.
