C.A.R.E. ICE FISHING CLASS
The Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education (CARE) Program offers a free ice fishing class that introduces you to the wonders of water, fish and fishing during the winter. Miss Judy and other state certified volunteer instructors will pass along the knowledge they have learned through years of angling. Video, demonstrations and activities will teach and entertain youths and adults alike. If ice conditions are safe, some outside ice fishing will be offered as part of the class. EXPLORE THE NIGHT WALK
In January, discover the fascinating life cycle of the great-horned owl in an interactive talk and go outside for a walk to listen for their mating calls. Whitetail deer will be the discussion in February with a snowshoe walk to look for their tracks and where they bed down. The spring calls of peepers and wood frogs will fill the air in the March discussion and the walk to the vernal pools will let us see if spring has truly arrived. Miss Judy invites you to bring your friends and/or family for a great night of learning something new about the great outdoors. LITTLE BLADE RUNNERS
Your 4 and 5 year olds can begin to learn the sport of skating. This fun based 5-session class will involve getting your children up and around on skates. The basics of forward and backward skating, turning, and stopping will be covered. Children must have their own skates or rent. (If you need to rent skates please call ahead to arrange for them.) SATURDAY FAMILY WALKS - NATURE'S SECRETS
In January, discover how to build snow caves that can provide shelter from the weather and sturdy snow forts for fun snowball battles. Come out in February to explore for animal activity by looking at animal tracks and scat along snow covered trails and wandering off trail into the forest. Join us in March to learn about the traditional maple sugaring season, which extends from early February until late March, which depends greatly on the weather. Learn how to identify sugar maple trees and how to select the correct size trees to “tap”. If the weather is correct, try your hand at learning the bucket and spout method. No matter what the weather, some sampling of the syrup will occur. Miss Judy invites you to bring your friends and/or family for a great afternoon of learning something new about the great outdoors.
