Dunning Lake Master Plan
Dunning Lake is one of Winding Trails’ primary assets and an area the Board of Directors sees as a priority for the success of our organization. Winding Trails started looking at Dunning Lake by surveying the membership back in 2014. That gave us some ideas about what people liked about this area and some of the problems that needed addressing. We then met as a staff and discussed the strengths and weaknesses of programming, infrastructure and maintenance of the Dunning Lake area. The Board of Directors then hired TO Design, LLC to facilitate and develop a 10-year Master Plan for Dunning Lake Beach and Picnic Area Improvements. The goal of the plan was to better serve, not increase the membership. Planning meetings discussed existing facilities, survey comments around the lack of picnic space and beach conditions, erosion and drainage issues, and providing new places for members to gather and congregate. The Master Plan includes an introduction and the process that was used to agree on the final design. It details the existing conditions available, preliminary designs and conceptual designs chosen by the: Board of Directors, Committees, Staff, and a Member Task Force. It identifies 12 distinct areas that could be improved over the next decade. This is a concept design plan. Each of the recommended areas for improvement will be evaluated and designed in detail as this Master Plan moves forward.
